Natkhat Paduka
The Fact
Paduka — the footwear placed before a deity — holds a unique place in Hindu worship: it is one of the only objects offered to a murti that is never actually worn by him. The Ramayana describes Bharata ruling Ayodhya in Ram's absence by placing his paduka on the throne — the footwear itself became the seat of authority. Placing paduka before Bal Krishna is an offering of presence, not utility.
The Science
Enamel work — colour fused onto metal through heat rather than painted on top of it — bonds at a molecular level with the base alloy. This is why enamel paduka holds its colour through years of puja exposure: humidity, incense smoke, and handling do not lift the colour the way they would lift paint. What you see is not a coating. It is the metal itself, permanently coloured.
Alankar — Styling Note
Place the paduka at the base of the altar, directly beneath where the murti stands or sits — never to the side. This is the one gehna item that is placed before him is dressed, not after. Violet pairs naturally with the Shanivaar poshaak, but paduka itself observes no day. He is always arriving. The footwear is always ready.
